Job descriptionWe have 2 training roles within the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (IAPT). One for Barnet IAPT Services and one for Enfield IAPT Services
IAPT Psychotherapeutic Counselling trainees will work in either Barnet and Enfield IAPT Services and complete the IAPT national curriculum for High Intensity Psychotherapeutic Counsellors. They will provide high intensity interventions within the service, delivering an IAPT-approved modality based on the specific training pathway that they undertake within the national curriculum, Person-Centred Experiential - Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD).
The IAPT Psychotherapeutic Counselling national curriculum will provide a Foundation level, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma (Level 7) training in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, leading to a qualification to practise as a High Intensity Therapist in IAPT services delivering NICE-recommended evidence based psychological therapy for adults with depression. This position is for trainees undertaking the foundation stage of the training. Recruitment for the courses will be aimed at graduates (and those who can demonstrate professional and academic equivalence) with a commitment to the IAPT model.
The trainees will be recruited by Barnet or Enfield IAPT Services. On completion of the foundation training, trainees will be eligible to apply to continue on to the Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma.

- Develop high intensity psychotherapeutic counsellors with the qualities, skills and competences to develop, engage in and sustain strong therapeutic relationships and work effectively with IAPT service users with depression, and their families where appropriate.
- Develop core psychotherapeutic counselling practitioner competency, including integration of practical competency in PCE-CfD, in line with the needs of service users, families and carers.
- Ensure clinical practice in accordance with local and national IAPT Service policy, including working to create inclusive and effective services for all.
- Promote personal and professional development and self-awareness essential to successful psychotherapeutic counselling.
